With an unprecedented streak that currently stands at 18-0, claiming numerous souls and one very high profile career at WrestleMania XXVII, The Undertaker has become completely untouchable on the grandest stage of them all.
So, how could the WWE Creative Team possibly build hype around a match where the outcome should be a 100%, cast in stone, wrapped in concrete, dead cert?
Simple, make The Deadman's opponent a guy who hates to lose, loves to be the centre of attention and just so happens to be the heir to Vince McMahon's WWE throne - Triple H.
The Deadman's Return on 02/21/11
Way back at Bragging Rights in October of 2010 Kane and The Undertaker fought in a Buried Alive match for the World Heavyweight Championship.
The Undertaker looked sure to defeat his younger brother in his trademark match-type to claim the title, but just as he set about burying Kane, The Nexus came to The Big Red Machine's aid and assisted him in not only retaining the gold but putting an end to his brother for good.
At least that's what he and the WWE Universe thought.
Towards the end of January a promo video started to play randomly during televised shows, showing a mysterious figure in a trench-coat and stressing the importance of the date 02/21/11.
Rumours began to circulate, especially as TNA Superstar Sting had recently let his contract lapse and was essentially a free-agent.
However, Sting eventually returned to TNA and the videos made it clear that it would be The Undertaker who showed up the night after Elimination Chamber.
As a clock counted down throughout the first hour of Raw the fans in attendance became more and more anxious to see if it was indeed The Deadman, and what his motives would be for appearing on Raw when Smackdown is his native brand.
Would he call out Kane? Would he exact his revenge on a much-altered Nexus?
Triple H Returns to the WWE
What exactly Taker had returned for on the 21st February quickly became as much of a mystery as who had been behind the spooky promos, as before he could even open his mouth to speak 'Time to play the game' echoed around the arena and Triple H followed him to the ring.
The Game hadn't been seen in a WWE ring for almost a year, after taking a severe beating from The Celtic Warrior; Sheamus shortly after WrestleMania XXVII, so when he appeared the fans popped like crazy.
In the ring the two men simply stared at each other, and Triple H indicated that he wanted to be the next to take a crack at breaking the streak, something his best friend and former DX Teammate had been unable to do the previous two years.
Triple H will 'Die Trying' at WrestleMania XXVII
Following their first encounter on Raw The Undertaker and Triple H continued to hype their match at WrestleMania, choosing to do so by cutting solo promos on various shows.
Triple H talked about there only being one thing left in his career that he hasn't done (ending the streak) and how he was much more well equipped to do so than his friend Shawn Michaels because he has absolutely no conscience when he steps between the ropes and if needs be he'll die trying to end The Deadman's streak and career.
The Undertaker talked about how for 18 years no one else has been able to touch him at Mania and Triple H would indeed die trying when they met on April 3rd in a No Holds Barred match.
The one thing neither man seems to have mentioned, or anyone else for that matter, is the fact that Triple H lost to The Undertaker at WrestleMania XVII, ten years ago.
It seems very odd that the Creative Team are trying so hard to brush that match under the carpet, when they could have simply explained it away by having Triple H say he wasn't as experienced or as ruthless back then, or something along those lines.
Will The Undertaker be 18-1 Following WrestleMania XXVII?
This would normally be a no-brainer for anyone even remotely familiar with wrestling and the WWE.
However, Triple H IS the bosses son-in-law.
It's almost a certainty that at some point Triple H, aka Paul Michael Levesque, will have at least part if not full ownership of the WWE, and if rumours are to be believed he already has the ability to pull plenty of strings behind the scenes.
So, a company-man who has no chance of defecting to a rival to play on the 'Streak-Killer' gimmick would be the perfect person to put an end to The Undertaker's domination, and if Triple H has an ego as large as someone of his stature deserves to have, he could well be the one to do so...
Prediction:
...But it's very unlikely.
Taker can't have many more years left in the ring.
He seems to take over half the year off then show up for a grand-stand match at WrestleMania, but this year's build has seen him compete in even fewer matches than usual (a big fat zero since October of last year) and could be a sign that he's considering hanging up his boots.
If he is considering making this his last WrestleMania, 18-0 becoming 19-0 is more likely to convince him to return next year and round it up to the big 20-0, which is sure to be in the best interests of the WWE.
