The TLC match was first introduced by Commissioner Mick Foley and pitted The Hardys, The Dudleys and Edge and Christian against each other for the Tag Team Championships at Summerslam 2000.
Since then this brutal match type has created many 'vintage' WWE moments, and became an obvious choice for a 'themed' PPV, following in the footsteps of the Submission-based Breaking Point and Hell in a Cell events.
Kofi Kingston Vs. Randy Orton
Although this will technically be the third official 1 on 1 meeting between Orton and Kingston, the first two were anything but straight forward.
The first match was tainted by brutal attacks from both Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase just seconds prior to the opening bell, which effectively gifted Orton the victory.
The second meeting was much more of a contest, but the outcome was once again brought into disrepute by Guest Host and Special Referee Mark Cuban who used his position of power to claim a degree of revenge over Orton for an incident six years ago at Survivor Series 2003.
Fireworks are sure to fly when they eventually meet at TLC, where there is every possibility Orton's lackeys could get involved once again.
Prediction: Kingston to claim an 'against the odds' victory, with the feud continuing on to the Royal Rumble.
DX Vs. Jeri-Show TLC Match for the Unified Tag Team Championships
This match had the potential to be an epic meeting between two tag teams that are at the very top of the WWE tree.
In reality it feels like a poorly cobbled together marquee match, where one team have spent more time selling merchandise and feuding with a dwarf than actually promoting the show-piece bout.
Of the participants Jericho and HBK stand out as the two who could potentially shine in this environment, but The Showstopper isn't getting any younger and it takes two to pull off big spots and high risk offence that Jericho has achieved in this kind of match in the past.
The Big Show was never likely to put on a show in a TLC match, but throw in a knee injury that is allegedly being managed by pain medication and he suddenly becomes a 7ft, near 500lb bystander, which could prove to be the current champions downfall.
Prediction: If Show requires further medical attention regarding his knee, dropping the belts, at least momentarily would be the sensible thing for the writers to pencil in. DX to win then move onto a temporary feud with The Hart Dynasty or Legacy.
John Cena (c) Vs. Sheamus Tables Match for the WWE Championship
On paper this should be the most straightforward prediction to make since the little known Hunter Hurst Helmsley got roundly squashed by The returning Ultimate Warrior at WrestleMania XII.
However, there seems to be so little chance the creative team would put the belt on Sheamus, that it suddenly becomes a possibility. After all, why else would they book such an obviously one-sided match for a Pay Per View main event?
Pushing a younger Superstar is great for the WWE in general, as the top of both the Raw and Smackdown cards have become a little stale as of late, but Sheamus has barely been on screen for 6 months.
Other than succeeding in the Breakthrough tournament that won him the shot at Cena's gold, hasn't really had any impressive performances and a large part of his career could rely on whether he can put on a performance during his 'big break'.
The writers have really put a lot of faith in the Celtic Warrior, pushing him as both a dominant force and a bullying heel simultaneously, but whether this will be enough to claim the gold remains to be seen.
Prediction: If Sheamus takes it, it'll have to be underhandedly, which is hard to achieve in a Tables Match.
The Celtic Warrior will come close, but Cena will pull out a win just when it looks like an impossibility.
